Celebrate Thomas Paine Day with an Online Event Hosted by Prominent Freethought Organizations
The Freethought Society, the Thomas Paine Memorial Association, the Center for Inquiry, and the Freedom From Religion Foundation are pleased to announce an online celebration of Thomas Paine Day on Thursday, June 8, 2023. This event will be held via Zoom at 4:00 PM PDT/7:00 PM EDT, and attendees are invited to join by visiting the following Meetup Group: https://www.meetup.com/freethought-society-meetup/events/293396499/
The event will feature an interactive discussion about Thomas Paine’s book, The Age of Reason, and how it relates to modern-day Deism. The keynote speaker for the event is Amber Quitno, who represents the World Union of Deists (WUD). For more information about WUD, please visit their website: https://www.deism.com/
The Thomas Paine Day celebration will also highlight mayors and/or other city representatives who will be presenting Thomas Paine Day proclamations. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about the signing into law of the Thomas Paine Washington, D.C. Monument project, including an exciting announcement about Congressman Jamie Raskin’s connection to the project.
Thomas Paine was a Deist, and his book The Age of Reason was written to explain Deism. In that book, he stated, “One good schoolmaster is of more use than a hundred priests.” As such, this event will serve as an educational and entertaining opportunity for attendees to learn more about Deism and how it relates to the modern world.
